Worlds: The League of Legends World Championship
The Pinnacle of League of Legends Esports
The League of Legends World Championship (Worlds) is the annual tournament that crowns the best League of Legends team in the world. Held between September and November, Worlds brings together the top teams from around the globe to compete for the Summoner's Cup.
Origins and History
Worlds was created in 2011 by Riot Games, the developer and publisher of League of Legends. The first tournament was held in Jönköping, Sweden, and featured eight teams from four regions. Since then, Worlds has grown exponentially, both in terms of the number of teams participating and the viewership numbers.
Format and Gameplay
Worlds follows a double-elimination bracket format, with the top teams from each region being seeded into the group stage. The group stage consists of four pools of four teams, with each team playing a best-of-one match against every other team in their pool. The top two teams from each pool advance to the knockout stage, where they compete in a single-elimination bracket.
